The little birds...

If you watch little birds you will see they are busy and happy! Using whatever they can find they create the most gorgeous little nest.
I would be the little bird with some glittery thread in her nest!
We can be like this. Happily working away with the things that are available to us to create a beautiful and happy home.
All the while with a little song in our heart.

Friday 24 August 2018

Feather your Nest Friday, 24th August, 2018.

It is still Friday but very late in the day!  We came home from the farm this afternoon.
This week so much more was achieved!  I am tired but it is a good tired from getting lots done.

I have a few more photos as now the house looks less of a disaster zone and there are less sheets over everything.

We had a week of more packing, work on our home getting it ready to sell and lots of lists of things we need to do before we can move.
At the farmhouse  builders have been pulling up old carpets and sanding the wooden floors that are underneath.   And I am so happy to see lovely light coloured wooden floorboards... I want no stain just clear finish on them so the rooms will be as light as possible.

The kitchen cabinets have been undercoated and are being sprayed with some hard wearing paint and while we were there the old lino came up and the floor was sanded.  Straight away the room looked so much bigger!

The stove and sink are wrapped in plastic before the spray painting.   I love the floors!

Other rooms are up to about the same stage...

Inside painting is done and everything looks clean and fresh.  From where we started this is all a huge transformation.

Except the windows!  They haven't been cleaned in a long time.  We will get to those next week...

Because of sanding and mess we stayed at a little cabin near by.  It was just lovely.  We had a meal with Chloe and Luke and during the days I took a picnic to the house and a thermos each of tea and coffee.  We used the back of the van as a picnic table.  It was so sunny and beautiful so it was just gorgeous.  I thought over and over how making up a picnic and taking tea and coffee was the best investment of time ever.  It made the day so nice and when I thought I was so tired we had a break and then were ready to get going again.  You get so much more work done this way.

This was our front garden in the cottage we stayed in!  Full of birds too!

During the day we worked on cleaning up another patch out the back.  You would call it fuel reduction for fire season.  We had a big fire going for seven hours and just kept piling stuff on.

After we could see that between this and the last time we had made a difference.  We need to do this again each time we are there as fire season begins mid October then we can no longer burn anything.  Currently the ground is very damp, water is laying everywhere and it is safe to have a bonfire.

We saw there are a lot of rabbits around.  And I noticed a lot of the kinds of birds about including black cockatoos.

At the end of the day Andy raked up around the fire so it would burn down and not escape.  Luke and Chloe arrived to see how we were going.  Luke came towards Andy and said "Andy don't move!"   Andy froze.  I looked... and there was a Huntsman spider the size of a small side plate on Andy's jumper.  Luke whacked it off!   Andy used to handle snakes as part of his job, isn't worried by lizards, mice, rats... but he hates spiders!  This was the largest spider I have ever seen!
That was time to call it a day!

We have come home with a list of things we need, measurements and plans.  On the surface of it this list is daunting.  But if we tackle one thing at a time we will get through it!

At home I worked on my "use it up challenge" and used quite a bit more from the freezer.  This is helpful too as we have a lot of extra expenses for a while.  Next week, for instance, we need to hire a truck.

I finished a rug which is for charity.  This took ages but it is very soft.  Mimi gave me this lovely sparkly yarn...

Thanks so much Mimi! This kept me busy for about eight weeks!

Now I have started working edges on some kitchen towels I got from Kmart.  They are gorgeous and at $3 each I thought I could do these as gifts.

I got a whole heap to do.  I will show them spread out when I have finished some.
Some are for the farmhouse too.  They are shades of grey with highland cows on them!

We arrived home and I got started with the washing.  Tomorrow I need to go buy a fridge that will fit in the farmhouse kitchen.  Our current fridge will go too after this house is sold.  But as we will no longer weekly shop and need to go much longer we know we need a much larger fridge.  So I am hoping I can get a good deal and a fridge I really like.   Over the last months I have been investing in containers to keep fruit and veggies fresh.  Chloe has tested some different ones.  She loves the Debbie Meyer Green boxes the best of all.  She has also Tupperware Vent Smarts.  We looked into this a lot as with the price of food plus distance keeping things fresh as long as possible seems like a good investment.   I basically can't wait to have a fridge set up with these!

So that is my week!
How did you build up your nest, get ahead,  add to your pantry or preparedness?
I hope it was a fruitful week for you.  I am thinking a lot about how the work we do adds up.  Things can seem enormous or impossible but little by little we get there.  Be encouraged and if you don't know what to do next "do the next thing."

Over the weekend we are going to hear from Laine.  I am blessed that she has shared something I can post for everyone to read.  I know many of you love it when we hear from Laine! xxx

  1. ahhh! I'm so excited for you and Andy. It's looking wonderful already. Are you doing all the sanding yourselves? Our floors need doing again but I'm dreading it. When we did them originally, we wanted to go as low chem as possible and used this deliciously scented orange oil based varnish, it was gorgeous smelling but it hasn't been terribly hard wearing.
Mimi spoke of those teatowels too I think, I must have missed them in kmart - highland cows!! My heart melts ;-)
You are inspirational, I've been stalking my email, hoping you'd have an update. Thankyou for taking the time even though you're exhausted. We're all cheering you on <3

    1. Dear Garden Del,
Wait until you see the Highland cow t towels! I got ten! Many will be gifts...
Thanks so much! We have always done renovations ourselves but now I am so blessed that my Dad has included these renovations in the house and I could get this done. There are builders there doing this work. It is amazing. And so fast! The transformation is amazing. We are having a clear varnish so as to keep the floors light. I hope by the time we move in the fumes etc will have dissipated as we keep all the doors and windows open as much as possible.
Thanks so much for your kind words! Have a lovely weekend! With love, Annabel.xxx

  2. Annabel,
I am so excited for you, it is all coming together. Your flooring is gorgeous, how could someone hide that under anything. Cabinets to the ceiling and that stove, oh what a dream kitchen.
I would have freaked to say the least with a spider that size.

Well I have good news. The house is ours, it went through both attorney approvals and inspection. Now we wait 4 weeks for the title so we can close.
On Monday when husband gave the realtor the deposit check they decided we were putting this house on market next Monday, the realtor had his camera and went around the house taking pictures. Oh my how I was happy I keep a spotless house. I did go before him and take down shampoo etc... out of shower, my crocheting off end table, cereal box off counter.
I started a journal like you just for the house, putting in meeting times, things we need to pay attention to first etc... Husband now asks me to look in my book when he has a question.

It is exciting to be moving but a daunting adventure with all the work. We are just beginning to pack and realize that 50 boxes won't do my kitchen alone.

My prayers are with you for an uneventful move. I am so happy you will be at the farm for the Holidays.
    Love,
    Rosanne

Yes having the house good you can just have the photographers through. I am sure your house will sell quickly! We are hoping the same, we think we will go on the market in about two weeks.
Yes it is daunting! One step at a time! With much love, Annabel.xxx

  4. Dear Annabel,
Your floors at the farmhouse are very nice. Having all wood is so much nicer than carpet or tile. In our former home we had brazilian cherry solid wood floors, even in the kitchen, and I loved them.
You are making good progress. The view around the farmhouse is lovely.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Dear Glenda, Thank you! We had no internet down at the farm... so I am behind on writing. It was very productive though. Today I am off to find a fridge and Andy is organising the hire of a truck. So next week is shaping up to be so busy!
I love our setting. Each window view is heavenly. The sounds are just birds, sheep, cows....
I do love the floors and cant wait to see them finished. Everything is already looking bright, light and airy as I like. It is a ray of sunshine! A breeze flows through the house. And we have an outdoor deck for eating meals etc.
I hope you had a good week! With much love, Annabel.xxx

  5. Hi Annabel and everyone,

Look at that huge kitchen! And so much light indoors, that is wonderful. I love the sparkly yarn and that edging is beautiful.

Cooking & food: All work lunches ($150) and snacks ($40) were brought from home. I cooked up some pork & veggies, mashed potatoes, wild rice blend, and turkey pieces. At work, I gratefully accepted a free coffee (Green Mountain blend) and cupcake treat. This weekend I am hoping to make some homemade hamburger buns and have a cookout.

    Household & gardening:
The cantaloupe vines are producing more baby melons. They seem to like the wet weather we have had. I would never have thought that we would do well growing melons!
The fig trees are also growing very well; they are still wee, but moving and pruning them was the right choice.
With viruses going around, it was time to give the bedroom a good airing out and wash all the bedding.
The kitchen sink is finally fixed and perfect (cost $0 - under warranty)!
My husband used his camera to take some photos of stitching for me; I was asked to write a tiny correspondent piece for a magazine! So excited!

Shopping: We used a $15 off coupon to purchase a painting for our living room, and my husband hung it for me.
A trip to the ReStore turned up a great soldering set for my husband's workbench for $20, and three OOP Just Cross Stitch holiday issues for 25 cents each. Each magazine has 75 ornament patterns in it! We also found a dvd of The Music Man (we love musicals!) for $1.
The thrift store had a bunch of wonderful books for $1.99 each. Among my treasures included a perfect copy of Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook (retail is $40), Rose's Christmas Cookies (retail $29.99), The Cross Stitchers Complete Companion (500 patterns and other projects!), and my husband found a gorgeous woodworking book and a few x-box one games for $4 each (he tells me the retail cost of just one of the games he got is $56 - eek!). I haven't figured out the total savings on our purchases, yet, but it is well in the hundreds of dollars between the games and lovely hardcover and trade books. (We will enjoy reading them, and pass some of the novels as gifts for our friends who enjoy gently used books.)

    Crafts & gifts:
I did some knitting on a scarf, and made progress on stitching (stitched on Black Hat Society, Ye Olde Chocolate Shoppe, and a Sue Hillis ornament).
A wonderful free blog post showed me an easier and better way to stitch with metallic thread.
Two more blogs (La Comtesse et Le Point du Croix and Happiness is Cross-stitching) generously offered some gorgeous free stitching patterns.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Please do let us know when your work appears in a magazine! I would love to see it! How wonderful!!
I love the books you found! They are good ones. I love success at the thrift store!
Do you know of Jennifer Reynolds? She has many free patterns to stitch her website is Jenny of ELEFANTZ and she has the most charming ideas and is very inspiring!
I love metallic thread but it is harder to work with! When I am settled at the farm I want to get back to my embroidery. I used to do so much plus sell some but then I went to yarn... time to return I think!
Well done on a great week! With love, Annabel.xxx

  6. Those floors are stunning! Everything is so nice and light, it's an absolute recipe for happiness in there, isn't it? :)

I had to do a Google image search for Huntsman spider and YIKES!!!! I don't hate spiders, but EGADS!!!! Those Huntsman spiders mean business, don't they?

I love your towels! I'm looking forward to getting started on a few new knitting projects. I went through my stash of yarn and found quite a few great things, so I have some ideas lined up. I also found quite a few cross-stitch kits. At this point, in combination with what I inherited from my grandmother and what I already owned before that, I could do nothing but cross-stitch until I die and probably still never finish...but I'll give it a try anyway. :)

  7. The floors are gorgeous! I love the knots in the wood and the beautiful light color. The kitchen looks like it will be a real pleasure to work in everyday. Thank goodness that the spider was disposed of quickly.

We are heading to the lake house this weekend to stay for a week. I am excited to get away. There is a wonderful house on the market there that we plan to have a look at. We are asking God to show us if this is where we should be for our retirement years. We love that little town and the friendly folks and the quiet.

We grabbed some great deals at the grocery for the pantry today before we head out. The most notable was bottles of real maple syrup for $3.48. We bought six for the pantry. We also got 12 ounces of sliced provolone and Asiago cheeses for $1.24 each. We bought four. We also stocked upon toilet paper for a great price.

Our weather is cool today so I have the screen doors open letting in lovely fresh air. Have a great weekend and I hope you find the right fridge!

  8. I forgot to say that we have had very good success with Rubbermaid produce keepers. We can keep washed lettuce for 2 weeks with a paper towel on top to absorb moisture! That proved it for me.

I think maple syrup is a great thing to have in the pantry. And I love cheeses!
I had success with the fridge! It is here now in a big box waiting to be loaded on to a truck! I have heard of the Rubbermaid produce keepers with excellent reviews. I think they are available here too. I cant wait to get set up and try my new system. Chloe has been my product reviewer!
Have a lovely time away! With love, Annabel.xxx

  9. Hello everyone! Omg you had me at " Andy don't move"! My husband would have hurdled that brush pile and that would have been the last time I'd see him.

Your place is absolutely stunning!! Those floors would cost an arm and a leg here to purchase. Having them covered up all those years saved them, a good thing for you!! A blank slate to decorate and I know you'll do wonderful things to it!!

I have some advise for your fridge and keeping produce fresh. When looking for a fridge you should look for one with dual evaporator cooling, it creates optimal climate conditions aka it extends the life of your food.
Most refrigerators use a single evaporator or cooling coil in the freezer section alongside a circulating fan. When a cooler temp is needed in the fridge section, additional air is diverted into the fridge from the freezer section thru a damper placed between the 2 compartments. Many of the refrigerators on the market today are single evaporators which can cause funny tasting ice cubes/water. While they might cost more upfront, the long investment many times out weighs its initial cost.
(Humidity is the enemy leading to spoilage of fresh fruits/vegetables.)
Just an FYI on the Debbie Meyer containers, don't wash them in the dish washer. It might say it's okay but the extreme temps will break down the coating and your boxes will not work as they once did. Here's a helpful tip..... If you ever place anything tomato based in a plastic container wash the container in cold soapy water first. The cold water will harden the enzymes in the tomato allowing the soap to remove it completely. You can then use regular wash water to wash again if needed. The reason the dishwasher cleans the sauce is because most commercial dishwasher detergents have bleach in them.

Please tell Andy I'll take 2 of those fire pits. He would make a fortune selling them where I live, outstanding!!

Have a wonderful week Annabel and Ladies, xoxo Patti Ann.

  10. Oh, how I’ve loved to pull up carpet and sand down the wood floors underneath! Results are lovely, but, oh, it is hard work!!! So much easier to do some of that work before you move in!!!
This week a dear friend that lives in a neighboring city that I met online in a pantry group and then in person two years ago, gifted me a big box (25 pounds?) of celery, 4-1/2 dozen ears of corn and 4 ten pound bags of potatoes! I am so excited! I chopped the celery up and filled my Excalibur dehydrator twice ! The big box dehydrated down to 2 half gallon mason jars that I vacuum sealed and put on my pantry shelf! https://pin.it/mau7webdukira6

The trimmings and toss away parts of the corn and celery went to my chickens (which they will convert into eggs for us!!) and our composter to use in the garden!
The corn fit into 8 quart freezer bags and we will certainly enjoy that during the winter months!! https://pin.it/esnxpyq7svodia
We will enjoy some potatoes fresh, make frozen French fries with some and dehydrate diced potato chunks for use in our dry dinner mixes we make!
What an awesome friend! I gave her a big bag of cheese rolls and 3 bags of bagels as a thank you! Her family has been enjoying those!
Another online friend was looking for some fabric scraps with roses and so today she will be receiving a big priority mail box filled with scraps and a lot of yardage from my fabric stash! One of the nicest things about having an abundant food pantry and fabric stash is, besides using it to benefit my own family, I can share with others!
I pulled out 5 pound boneless pork loin and slow cooked it in the crockpot to add BBQ sauce to for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches which we enjoyed for dinner and have had as lunches and leftovers!

The scrappy bag that I made using a free online tutorial got modified and I made a couple different sizes than the original and a couple friends have now ordered 5 bags from me so that will be an unexpected little stream of money coming in this week! With that encouragement, I will make up more and list them on my Facebook business page for sale and see what happens!
A friend who is DIY-ing at her house to prepare it for sale asked if anyone would cut her baseboards because her miter saw had died. We offered as friends to do it and she insisted on bringing dinner and dessert over to us as a thank you plus she gave us oak trim that we will use for another project!
After this week, I am ready and would love to go back to a bartering society! It just leaves us with such good feelings!!
We met with a financial analyst at work to see if we are prepared adequately to retire in May! I’ve done the worksheets and it looked quite do-able but I didn’t want any surprises when we make this change! The calculations I made were spot on and in fact, she told us a couple things we could do now that would be beneficial that we didn’t know about but are simple!
Hope everyone else is having a frugal week!,

I love the sound of fabric scraps with roses. I would love to see what your friend makes!
The pork sounds beautiful. Frequently I have left over pork roast. I am always looking for ideas with left over pork. The rolls sound a really good plan.
I love the bags you are making! You are going well on them!
I think you are going well at bartering! I love it!
I am glad you are on track for retirement. I know retirement for your household will mean just doing different things and I expect your home business too. It will be wonderful! Love to read your report Pat! Thank you. With love Annabel.xxx

  11. Annabel, I hit the post button too soon. A very simple way to help extend your produce is to wash all of them. Whether or not you purchase from a farmers market or store most is coated with either a wax or oil to prevent spoilage. That coating is only intended to provide coverage for a short time. Your produce is a living organism and it will react to it's "climate". If it has a coating on it it can't breathe or release its hormones, ethylene gas. With no where to go the produce will spoil. Removing that coating will allow those gases to escape and extend its life. I personally use either a few drops of castile soap or baking/ bicarb soda in tepid water. I manually wash each piece, rinse and dry. When stored just make sure to keep that produce dry, moisture is its enemy......

    1. Dear Patti, thank you for explaining about the fridges I never knew that! Also I will note about the Green Boxes. Overall plastic just onset seem to go well in the dishwasher anyway I seem to find.
I have Castile soap and I always have bicarb. I will follow your advice. I cant wait to try it in fact! I know about moisture being the enemy and to make sure things are dry. Chloe pus a paper towel in the bottom of her containers. When she opens the container if there is any moisture she wipes that out and replaces the paper towel. Well she feels this all is a miracle and has extended her fresh produce so so much! She loves it. After the first set of Green Boxes I got her larger ones and she loves those too. So she has been my product tester!
Thank you for your tips you are a wealth of information! With much love, Annabel.xxx

  13. Wow the house is looking so fresh and beautiful Annabel!

Well done for getting some crafting done, I hope that was a chance for you to relax a bit!

This week was odd for me, I experienced side effects to antibiotics for the first time, so had a couple of days of feeling pretty rotten. But thankfully they passed in time for my son's 6th birthday. He had three friends over after school, they had afternoon tea, cake, a treasure hunt and played. Nice and simple! There are some packets of lollies and chips leftover too so I will hide them so they can be used for the next one in two weeks.

I have tipped out my bag of fabric scraps all over the lounge floor today, to get an idea of what I can make. I was looking through some of the show and tell posts from last year and there are so many good ideas there! At the moment of course it just looks like total carnage lol.

How great that you are able to eat from the freezer to save time, money and perhaps a bit of sanity!!

Have a great weekend, I hope you are able to put your feet up for a bit.

    1. Dear Jen, I hope you are feeling better! Each time I ate antibiotics now I have to take probiotics. So now I just start right away. But some antibiotics might not agree with you too... Also I found out if taking probiotics wait 2 hours between them and the antibiotics or it kills off the probiotics. Now I know this I get on much better.
the birthday sounds lovely. Having left overs is a bonus!
Whatever is going on I am better if I still crochet or something in the evening. It helps me to relax and wind down. I sleep better.

  14. Annabel the farm house looks divine and I love the spacious kitchen and beautiful floorboards that will look so nice with a clear finish on them.

You are doing so well and I too carry refreshments and sandwiches when we are busy moving and recall both of us sitting on eskies having cold drinks and sandwiches when we moved here under the trees and in the garage and kitchen too :).

Our Vicky challenge added up to $154.49 in savings and earnings this week :).

Here is what we did to save, build our pantry and accomplished -

    Finances & earnings -
    - Listed 10 more handmade items on eBay using a free listing promotion saving $16.50 in usual listing fees.
    - Made $65.20 from the sale of 1 5 layer cotton eye mask, a homemade triple layer table runner & 100 stems of dried English lavender stems picked and dried from the gardens.
    - Banked more money into home deposit savings account bringing us to 28.04% of the way there.

    In the kitchen -
    - Made 2.8 kg of honey, almond, coconut and sultana granola from food storage for $8.55 saving $28.69 over purchasing the same amount in the supermarkets in equivalent quality and ingredients.

    Pantry stock ups-
    - Topped up on special saving an additional $29 on normal prices on 2 x 400 ml cocoa moisturiser, 6 x vanilla beans, 1 pkt of coffee filters for filtering vanilla extract, 12 pkts of 100 g smoked oysters, 6 x 250 g pkts of cracker biscuits, 8 x 100g pkts of twisties for snacks, 2 x 375 g pkts of dried chick peas, 18 x 250 g pkts of baking chocolate chips. The savings included specials and redeeming a $10 supermarket rewards voucher for buying our normal groceries.
    - Purchased 10 punnets of 250 g strawberries for 0.95c per punnet combining specials and a further 5% off using our roadside assist gift card discount saving $15.50 on usual prices. Today we will be washing, chopping or halving and freezing them for future batches of jam and some for desserts and lunches too.

    Home organisation -
    - Went under the house and did a stocktake on all the firewood we have to see if we had enough for winter this year and next and we will need to cut more while it is cool. We re stacked it from small to large. Interesting experiment as we are both tall and the cottage is 2'6" off the ground and we are both tall so our legs were getting tangled up and we were pulling ourselves out from under there, quite amusing :) but we got it done.
    - Tackled organising the 3 bay machinery garage as we just threw things in there when we moved. Took everything out and pressure cleaned the shed, garden equipment, BBQ and smoker, wiped over shelving units, fuel containers and put it all back again. Speaking of spiders, eek, there was a heap of Redback spiders and egg sacks we blasted into oblivion with the pressure cleaner as no way I am touching those even with thick leather gloves on. Still have the boxes of power tools and bits and pieces to sort and box in an organised fashion next week to finish it off. This will help us when we move having everything boxed, organised and labelled too.
    - Did our 3 monthly grocery shop using 2 of our $240 for $200 e-vouchers and dated, rotated and put everything away. While we were at it we re-organised the food storage pantry room so we have more room on the gorilla shelves to stock up on more food. It is amazing with a bit of re-organisation how much more you can fit into a small space.

Have to say we are both sore and worn out after this week but it was worth it to see the results of everything looking clean and organised :).

Hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead :).

    1. Dear Sewingcreations, We will be like you this week sitting in our house having a kind of picnic! Having food and drinks just gets you so much further in a days work. I think the same with workers or helpers...I always feed them and give drinks.
I think strawberries must be on special Australia wide! What a good deal! All your pantry stocking up was excellent.
You did a lot of work in the garage! Thank goodness for gloves! I am very careful about spiders now as you can imagine...
I agree about a well organised space and room. I am thinking on that with my pantry to set up. I also like to date things so will be doing that as rotating is important. I am trying to establish an inventory too.
Now wonder you are tired! I am feeling much the same. We saw big progress and it is satisfying but tiring. Still as we work towards our goals it is wonderful!
I hope you have another good week! We will be loading a truck! I have one room ready for inspections... and the floors at the farmhouse will be dry by Tuesday night. So we can move stuff in! So it will be a big week!
Many thanks for your report I love to hear what you achieved! With love, Annabel.xxx

Have a lovely weekend! With love, Annabel.xxx

  16. Hello lovely Annabel, what a beautiful home you are making on the farm. I am so happy for you realising your dream of farm life and all it entails. It is my dream too. Such an exciting, busy life ahead and like all the other bluebirds, I'll be cheering you and Andy on and love seeing all your posts about your new life.
You are amazing still finding time for crafting. What a sweet generous lady you are making that beautiful rug for charity and Mimi is a sweetie as well donating that gorgeous wool.
I haven't been able to do much this week as my back is bad but my darling husband has made a pretty as a picture guinea pigs hutch painted white and grey for our Granddaughters eighth birthday. He repurposed old timber, wire and paint and only paid nine dollars for two slide bolts. It is beautiful and I will post pics after end of September.
We also bought a cuddly little fluffy guinea pig for fifteen dollars so we are so pleased with our gift for our beautiful girl. I'm also making her a pillowcase with unicorns on the fabric as she asked for something with unicorns for a present. I got the idea from the lovely pillowcases you made.
Take care Annabel, and enjoy every minute of this new exciting time in your life. Xxx

  18. Dear Annabel,
I am so excited for you with your move to the farm and the farmhouse! I know this is your dream and an answered prayer. You will be at home there.
I apologize once again for my absence. I have just accepted this as the new normal, as I am either just busy, or too tired at the end of the day to do my usual reading and commenting. It is just the season I am in and I'm trying to keep up and enjoy every moment.
It is so fun to see your progress. I know it seems like there are a million things to do, but bit by bit, you will get there. I love seeing the transformations at the ranch. There is still so much, but a few weeks ago, a friend came over who hadn't visited since John was born, and she was just so impressed by all that we had done since she last saw the place. And when I look back at the way things were, I can really see it too.
I am used to Colton's schedule now and I just love it. He is now on a three week vacation! We will spend two days away, but other than that, we will just enjoy each other's company at home and cross more projects off our list.
So far, he has almost finished tearing down the old fence around the yard and garden. Our garden area has been expanded, and next he will move our propane tank out of there and put in some new water lines. Otherwise, we will be focusing on free projects :) We had to replace the transmission in our vehicle and that cost a small fortune and set us back a bit. I am just glad we had been saving and didn't have to worry about paying for it.
My upcoming projects will be painting. My parents had a tree die in their back yard and offered me the porch swing that had been hanging from it. I had been wanting one for our back patio! So it is perfect and just needs a coat of paint. I'll also paint the front doors. Colton built me a cedar window box for under my kitchen window, and next he will build shutters and I will paint those too. I already have the paint on hand.
Little John is just growing and growing. He is eating regular food now and I am really wanting a garden. Hopefully all of that will be set up and planted during this vacation too.
I picked up some bargains at the newly discovered thrift store just outside of town. They had a "bag sale". You were allowed to fill a giant black trash bag with anything in the store and pay $1 total for the whole thing!! I bought a wooden calendar, wooden blocks for John, a clay flower pot, several books, and a heap of clothes for Colton's little sister as she went with me and helped me fill the bag.
Besides all of that, I have been working away at my Etsy shop. I received my tax ID in the mail so I am official! I am now just creating listings and waiting for a few business purchases to arrive in the mail. I hope to be up and running in September!
Well, that is about it for me as I don't want to write a book about my last months in your comment section lol! I hope everyone is doing well and has a lovely weekend!
    With lots of love, Kelsey

    1. Dear Kelsey, It is a big encouragement when someone notices how much you have done. I know you have done heaps!
A porch swing! Oh that would be lovely! Your projects all sound gorgeous to me!
While you have Colton home this is a great chance for your garden. Kelsey if you begin small you will be amazed how much you can grow!
We have those bag sales too! They are amazing. I havent seen one in a while but wow they can be good! You did great!
Please send me a link as soon as your shop is up! I will post it here and on fb! You will get many supporters and likers and it is all a help!
I am really glad to hear from you. In all that is going on I was driving back from the farm thinking I need to write to you and see that you are ok. I am so glad everything is going well!
Thanks so much for your encouragement! We will both be starting gardens together I think! With lots of love, Annabel.xxx

  19. Dear Annabel and beautiful blue birds, wow Annabel the farmhouse is going to be gorgeous. Thank you for sharing more of the farmhouse with us.

    My week has included :
I bought a new two piece shirt and jacket on sale, I saved $50off the regular price.
I bought some craft items in a craft shop 50 percent off certain brand sale , I saved $40 at the sale.
I received two meals from my parents, saving $20.
    I had my usual centacare
on services( 7 hours this week) I saved $322 compared to going through a private company for services.
I had a bulk billed appointment with an eye specialist, saving approximately $150 compared to a private specialist.
I received free medication, saving myself approximately $50.
I received transport from my parents including a trip to and from the he hospital for my specialist appointment. I will say a saving of $150 this week.
I resisted buying a snack and drink at the hospital and instead had water from a bottle in the car and waited until we got home to eat. A saving of $15.
    I saved $20on some groceries.
A total saving this week of $817.
Annabel, I look forward to seeing how you decorate the farmhouse. I wish you the very best with all that is to come with moving.
I hope everyone has a good new week, love Barb W.

  20. Dear Annabel, your new home looks so lovely. This weekend had a "spring is in the air" feeling here. My family spent the weekend at home and got so much done including finishing my daughters cubby house/hut. She picked a grey and white colour scheme (like Lorraine W's guinea pig hutch), it looks lovely. We also had a clean up fire and are getting everything tidy for two weeks time with visitors and a 12 year old sheep themed party - fun! I am also amazed to tell you I have started on my THIRD crochet blanket (continuous granny square)- I am really enjoying working on it in the evenings. I happened to have all different browns I collected at opp shops and it looks really good. I didn't think I was capable of crochet. Thanks for taking the time to encourage and inspire. Take Care, Clare.

    1. Dear Clare, The cubby house sounds just gorgeous! What a project!
Ok I will be wanting to hear about the sheep themed party! Details please!
WELL DONE on the crochet! Crochet is addictive, relaxing, absorbing and lovely. Your op shop yarns sound like they came together beautifully. I am so thrilled. You will have your daughter crocheting next. Now you are going so well do try edgings... even flowers, somewhere I have a tutorial on both. Seriously these are all only chain, single and double crochet. I love pineapple stitch that is a great one when you are ready! You have done great! Plus do you notice how much fun it is to learn? Well this continues when you branch off and try new patterns, squares etc so it never ends!
Thank you so much Clare, with love Annabel.xxx
