This means to me fresh fruit as well as pies and crumbles, jams and apricot chicken for dinner. Pies for the whole family and the freezer and a years worth of jam... and jams for gifts as well. It's amazing that one small tree can provide all of that!
I've saved jars all year and have a collection of deep dish pie plates I use every season. In mid winter getting an apricot pie out of the freezer for a hot winter desert is just beautiful!
Sometimes I have other fruit, last year I had a huge quantity of nectarines and also plums. Between all this we had deserts and jams for a whole year and they were all beautiful.
I love this time of year! The abundance of all this is just wonderful.
Everyday I check on the fruit and as it ripens then minute the first peck from a bird I'm out there picking the fruit!
When we bought this house and when we first inspected it the apricot tree had ripe apricots on it. I thought it was a sign this was our perfect house as apricots are Andys favourite fruit! And yes he says "there is an apricot tree!" the minute he sees it.
I had a beautiful parcel from my friend Helen. Her parcels are the greatest joy to open! I have to show you this Christmas ornament she sent me... it's so beautiful and lovely for our tree...
Thank you Helen I just love it!
And I want to say hi to a lady called Mrs Tiggywinkle... I hope you see this. I had a lot of blog traffic from a site I used to write for so I followed the link back to see what was causing this flow of traffic. And there was Mrs Tiggywinkle telling people she loved my blog! Thank you so much! Please comment so I might find out who you are! xxx
Hi Annabel, I hope your fruit tree delivers :) I have oranges, lemons and limes, and the occasional avocado (all in a Sydney backyard) and they tend to go to the birds. I must check my avocado tree before the birds get them!
ReplyDeleteHi Little Moo... I gave my tree extra water today! Avocado's!! Here in SA we buy them mostly as hard as rocks and they ripen at home. Also much of the time they are about $4. So I'm hoping that might mean you can pick them before the birds like them and they will still ripen. I would LOVE to have avocado's! I manage to grow our limes and lemons most of the year but no oranges. You garden sounds great!xx
DeleteAnnabel I was so surprised to see my name on your blog:) Truly your blog is one of my absolute favourites. You write beautifully and oh my goodness the things you make and the love you give your friends and family are magical:)
ReplyDeleteHello depurplet! It is funny going from SS names and to who everyone is outside SS! Thank you for your beautiful comments. Your comments made my day and as I said seemed to cause lots of people to pop over and visit. It is really interesting... (blogging) haven't ever done anything like it before, knew nothing of how to start or make a blog. Could not afford to pay anyone to help me! But maybe thats a good thing? By far most people follow by the fb page rather than this actual blog page, but it is the same thing. (more details on here) You give me great encouragement and I really appreciate it, thank you. xxx
DeleteHello Annabel,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to have found your wonderful blog! I know you from SS as well as I am Kaye B on there also.
Hello Kaye! I am so pleased to see you here. It is lovely to see the girls I know from SS. It was a big leap from SS to a blog, well for me anyhow! Mimi and Lorax have very kindly given my blog address on some SS threads which has helped me hugely. Thank you so much for commenting! Have a very Happy Christmas! xxx
