The Tuesday Afternoon Club. A post from Kelley.

This week I want to share a letter from Kelley.  Her crafts and gifts are always just gorgeous and have a way of being incredibly special yet so inexpensive!   Truly inspiring and creative.  So over to Kelley I am sure this will bless your heart!

Using scraps from a nightgown/robe set and a skirt I’d made, plus lavender bedsheet scraps, I made hats for my little granddaughter.

I made yo-yos with more scraps.

Inspired by some I saw online, I made these sets of felt bunny hair (alligator) clips for my granddaughters.

Using an old Mary Engelbreit calendar and a 70 year-old children’s book, I made Mother’s Day cards for my girls.  (Our older daughter is expecting #2!)  I did some French knots on the Engelbreit “wallpaper.”  Inside, I copied a passage from Louisa May Alcott’s  Little Women, forming a little book.

I read Alcott books to our girls when they were little.  During some passages, tears streamed down all three of our faces!  Here is the passage I copied for my girls’ cards:

Finally, I embroidered these Mother's Day cards. They too were inspired by a card I’d seen online.  The two on the right will be mailed to Dave’s and my moms.

Again, inside my own mother’s card, I copied a line from Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women:

Isn’t that precious?! *tears*

Thank you Kelley!

And so you see how much sentiment can make the most special and personal gift. Not something you can find in a store!  xxx

  6. Oh Kelley, your gifts are divine! They really are beautiful. The hats are gorgeous and I love wide-brimmed hats, and they can be washed too.Such pretty hats. The hair clips are just lovely! I love Little Women! I really love you you used Alcott's writing in your gifts- meaningful words and meaningful memories! I had tears to my eyes thinking about the bond between mother and child. Thank you for reminding me of the loveliest thing on earth. Your gifts will be treasured. Love, Bridge XX

    1. Bridge, dear,

I asked my girls (they each have a girl of their own now) if they were wide-brimmed hats kind of mamas or bonnets kind of mamas. My older girl has a very fair-haired, red-curl-headed, blue-eyed Eloise Genevieve. Eloise's mama is a wide-brimmed hats kind of mama. Eloise now has four hats like these made by Granny, so she's good to go this summer.

Yes, Louisa May Alcott books always come with tears, mhm? Yet another one of those loveliest things on earth.

      You're a treasure, too, Bridge.

      *hugs*

Thankyou especially for the words of Louisa May Alcott , especially about waving everyone off , as that is somethign I do ,and had been wondering lately about stopping it , for fear of annoying some who are sitting checking phone messages or bags .I will carry on as usual now :-)

    1. Maria, dear,

I think that's why I especially feel ministered to by Alcott's books, because I see areas I need to work on: a soft answer, gentleness, meekness, discretion. I sure need the fruit of the Spirit in my life! When I read these books aloud to my girls, I always portrayed Marmee with a gentle tone and softness. (Did I sound like Marmee throughout the day?) Her rough edges had been rounded. Ah. A long way to go to be like the Lord.

I have a long way to go to be like the Lord
I have a long way to go to be like Him
I've got to be merciful, dutiful, faithful and true
Kind and just in everything I do
I have a long way to go to be like the Lord

Carry on, Maria, dear! Carry on!

      *hugs*

Oh, everything is beautiful! I love those hats and would love one for myself! Did you use a pattern?

And who doesn't love a yo yo?! I always dreamt of making a bed cover out of them. I remember my Grandma making little floppy clowns out of them for us.

And the MD cards with the LMA quotes! They're beautiful! Sure to bring a little sniffing lol!

    1. Debby, dear,

From one Missouri mule to one beautiful Kansas sunflower, thank you for your generous compliments. Yes, I had a pattern for the wide-brimmed toddler hats. I made four of them; so fun. My little redheaded Eloise is ready for summer!

Right? Who doesn't love a yo yo? I STILL dream of making a bed cover with them, and indeed one day I shall.

And since everything is beautiful, here's a little Ray Stevens for you, too:

      Everything is beautiful
      In its own way
      Like a starry summer night
Or a snow covered winter's day

      Everybody's beautiful
      In their own way
      Under God's heaven
The world's gonna find a way.

      I love sniffling.

  14. Thank you, Kelley, I am truly blessed by the passage you shared. I was working in the kitchen w/ my 9 yr. old daughter Sophie. She blessed me by telling me that I am really the only person she can confide in freely. Wow!
Your gifts are all amazing! My daughters would love those bunny clips. :)
