Feather your Nest Friday, 15 May 2015.

I have news! This week we build up our family with a new baby!

Yesterday Lucy had her baby! I was dying to post right away but had to wait for all the family to know and such technicalities!

First of all Lucy is well and they all are fine. The baby is a little girl just under seven pounds which is really good as we were told she would be small. Lucy is tiny for anyone who doesn't know.

So here is Lucy with baby...

Her name is Harper Patricia Ivy.

Patricia is my Mum and Kato's Nana also.
Ivy is my Dad's Mum/Lucy's Great Grandma.

Dad is away up north working on cattle. I rang him and told him the name. He already knew about the birth as Mum rang him first. But he didn't know the name. I repeated it to him so he could hear over his bad hearing and dodgy phone line.
He said "oh, thats marvellous" and kept saying "oh, thats marvellous" over and over and then he said "Oh, that's a bit emotional" lol He never expected his Mother's name to be in there. You could have wiped the floor with him. It was a joy to hear him beyond words over all of this. Dad has always been more like the girls Dad than Grandpa. He was their number one man in their lives and so the connection between him and both girls is so close.

Now, I am not the first Grand mother in the world. And I know my Grandmothers loved me and I loved them. But no one ever told me what it is like when your daughter has a baby. Not a word. Not until the last few months when Fiona and Kaye both shared with me that they felt intense emotions, anxiety, joy and a million other things when their own daughters had babies recently. Thanks to them I felt more normal and had someone go ahead of me and this was such a help.
Also I had a lot of prayerful support and Lucy had more prayers than she will ever realise. Thank you to you all.

So in the afternoon Chloe, Mum and I went in together. Chloe didnt nurse Harper as she has a scratchy throat and was really careful.

Kato was nursing her when we walked in. Oh, my goodness she looked so tiny. Mum swooped in and had a nurse. I regret not getting a photo of Kato nuring her first but I will do that next.

Harper and Great Grandma!

Then my turn!

She is just gorgeous with the cutest little face. And she did a lot of faces, frowning and lips moving. It felt so strange. Yesterday we had gone shopping and Lucy's belly was the feature and here she was!

Look at that little face!

I didn't really expect a nurse so soon! Luckily I did all my crying in the morning when I got the call and had de blotchified by the time I got there. And I didn't cry either. Impressive!

Last night I looked at the pictures over and over.  We all love her so much already.

What a day. What happiness, relief, everything....

This morning I got a text from Lucy.

It just said "Mum she is an angel. I am so blessed."

And thats how we feel too.

During the week I cleaned, cooked, gardened, took Lucy to hospital once with a false alarm, and kept extra busy as that's what I do to keep from worrying and thinking too much! It seems just wrong to post pictures of pies and so on at this point so I will save all that for next week!

I hope you had a wonderful week and had lots of opportunities to save and build up your nest.
We have a new little chickie in our nest! xxx

  4. Harper is just beautiful Annabel. CONGRATULATIONS to the whole family.

And so now you are a grandmother, you have lost your heart forever to this precious little girl, so many happy times ahead for you and your family :)

    Grandma's Heart
When I heard you were on the way,
I smiled and wiped a tear away.
I cried the tear because I knew,
My heart had held a place for you.
As each day your Mommy grew,
I thought and thought and thought of you.
I wondered if you were a girl or a boy.
And what would be your favorite toy.
I wondered what games we'd play,
And how we would spend a day.
Would we talk or read or bake?
Oh, what special friends we'd make!
Would we dance or skip or sing?
What would be your favorite thing?
Would we cuddle, kiss and hug?
What would give my heart a tug?
When you were born, I held you close,
It's what I'd dreamed of most.
I touched your tiny fingers and toes,
I kissed your head, your cheek and nose.
    Hello little grandchild,it is me,
My heart as happy as can be.
I wish for you the sun and moon,
I wish for you a happy tune.
    Know that Grandma's always near,
I'd do anything, anything for you my dear.
When I heard you were on the way,
I smiled and wiped a tear away.
I cried the tear because I knew,
My heart would always belong to you.

  11. Congratulations! That is such wonderful news. Harper is adorable. My own children are young, and are absolutely adored by their grandparents. It is so special to 'share' my children with my own parents, and to know that they love them as much as I do. There is such a wonderful relationship between my children and my parents. And don't worry about spoiling her- children understand that there are different rules at their grandparents' house! ( such as "yes my darling, of course you can have another biscuit" lol) Best wishes, Stephanie. Xx

    1. Stephanie I am so glad for you that your parents are wonderful Grandparents. Really that is such a big thing. Your children will cherish this their whole lives as I do. I had fantastic Grandparents. I had two Nans and one Pa as Dads Dad died when I was four. I do remember him though. But the others I had them all until my mid thirties and Chloe and Lucy remember them all well too as they were 8 and 10 or so before any of them passed away. They were a wonderful help even when I had my children and they were wonderful when I was a child! Thats a pretty epic effort!
It is a help to you too and a back up. I wish everyone had this. Thank you for your wishes. Enjoy every moment with your younger children it goes really fast! xxx

  20. Beautiful! Congratulations! You and your daughter are just gorgeous in these pictures.

I coached my daughter through labor and delivery for both of hers so I know those love emotions well. Her daughter is Bella Vera and Vera was my Dad's mother's name. He was just the same as your Dad and it took quite a bit of shouting to tell him on the phone, too. He calls her Bella Vera and not just Bella like everyone else.

How beautiful about Bella Vera. These things mean a lot. I am impressed when thoughts go to how much this will mean to someone, in our cases, Grandpa. I never knew so it was a surprise all round and I got to tell Dad as it turned out and enjoy that moment. I will treasure that one forever!
These are some of the most beautiful moments in life! xxx

    1. Dear Teri,
I am so grateful for this! Lucy lived in London for a year. I put on a brave face but hated it! I am so glad we are all close by. Lucys home is 5 minutes in one direction and Chloes 5 minutes in the other. Mums house is 1 minute away but the farm is three hours away, where she is most of the time. But that is the maximum distance and we all see each other often. So often I think of how lucky I am with this.
Have a wonderful weekend! Thank you for your wishes!
      Love Annabel.xxx

  28. Annabel congratulations! This is such a blessing from God. You will be such a wonderful grandmother. I have to say- Lucy is such a stunner, just like you. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful and serene woman post birth! Harper has such a lovely name. I love how the middle names come from family too. Harper is blessed, not only has she been born into such a loving and supportive family, but she has great genes! She is beautiful.

I'm sorry for my lack of posts. I too have had some news, I gave birth to Henry John Walter (John after my grandfather and Walter after DHs grandfather- see how special grandparents are) 2 weeks ago, 4 weeks early. I was diagnosed with severe pre eclampsia in labour, and little Henry came out unwell. He had to spend 9 days in SCBU due to a collapsed lung etc, but we are so blessed because he made a full recovery! We are so thankful. We are home now and he is such a cutie. Lucy and I will be having sleepless nights, but it's so worth it! I keep thinking of you with your lists and utilising your optimum time of day to get things done....if I get dinner cooked and the washing folded all day, then I'm happy! Thank you for your inspiration. Love, Bridge

  29. Dear Bridge, Congratulations! I am so glad you let me know about your little Henry's arrival. I am so sorry you had a worry with him but happy he is ok now. It is so stressful when anything is wrong.
Thank you for your wishes for Harper. It is so exciting!
Bridge just now Lucy is just feeding Harper, recovering herself and thats about it. It is the season to just do that and get these babies off to a good start. And rest when you can as nights are so broken. Everything else can wait!
I would love to send you something for Henry. If you would be comfortable to give me your address email me brinkzi21@hotmail.com but dont feel you have to or anything!
I hope you both continue to do well... sleep whenever you can!
    With love, Annabel.xxx
